Navel Magazine
Cranbrook Academy of Arts Photography Department & North End Studios is delighted to invite you to the pre-launch of NAVEL, a magazine created in the frameworks of a workshop conducted by publisher and curator Dorothée Dupuis within the Photography Department in collaboration with Liz Cohen and Ashley Cook.
This investigational exhibition will present the print-on-demand project created in the workshop through displaying prints of the spread and layout of the upcoming issue of NAVEL.
NAVEL Magazine is a collection of texts and visual works expressing a multitude of photographic practices. Combining structures that exist on different plateaus, conversation is created throughout the pages. NAVEL references issues in socio-political climate, pop culture, gender identities, as well as narrative conditions. The juxtaposition of both subversive and direct imagery reinvigorates the relationship between archaic scenarios and contemporary developments, creating instances that challenge our perceptions of the nature of image making.
